Your first appointment includes a comfort check and treatment plan
A relaxed conversation, a small test patch so you feel the work, and a realistic timeline mapped out together. No pressure to book a session the same day.
Before your first appointment.
- Let your hair grow a littleLeave one to four days of growth, depending on the area, so the hair is long enough to grip with tweezers. Shaving and trimming are fine; avoid waxing, tweezing, and threading for at least two weeks before.
- Ease off strong activesPause chemical exfoliants a few days in advance, and avoid intense chemical peels during your treatment plan.
- Mind the sunAvoid excess sun and arrive without a sunburn on the area.
- Hydrate ahead of timeDrink water in the days leading up, and add electrolytes if you like. Do not chug water the day of.
- Dress comfortably and arrive earlyWear clothing that makes the treatment area easy to reach, arrive with clean, product-free skin, and give yourself about five minutes before your appointment.
- Bring what keeps you calmAirPods with music, a podcast, or an audiobook, and a breathing technique you like. Gentle stretching or yoga beforehand helps too; some positions ask for a little flexibility, and a stiff neck, for example, can make certain areas harder to treat.
- Set up aftercare at homeHave gentle, unscented products ready: a mild cleanser and moisturizer, plus an antihistamine if you are prone to hives.
- Share relevant contextSkin sensitivities, medications, recent procedures, or medical considerations. Anything you mention helps shape a session that feels safe.
What to expect afterward.
Mild redness, slight swelling, or small pinkish dots on the treated area are normal and usually settle within a few hours. Some clients see tiny pinpoint scabs over the next day or two; these are part of healing and should be left alone to fall off on their own.
Normal reactions, and when to flag them.
Some scabbing, small crusts, redness, and temporary marks are a normal part of healing. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH, darker marks) and post-inflammatory erythema (PIE, pink or red marks) can also appear, especially on more reactive skin, and usually fade over time.
Always report any reaction to Chloe, even if it seems minor. It helps her decide whether to adjust your settings, and it informs which probe to use: she can switch between gold and stainless steel probes to avoid reactions in clients with a suspected nickel or stainless steel sensitivity.
For the first 24 to 48 hours.
- Be gentle with the areaCleanse with cool or lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry; do not rub.
- Avoid heatSkip saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, very hot showers, and intense workouts that cause heavy sweating.
- Avoid sun and tanning bedsCover the area if you will be in direct sun, and apply a mineral sunscreen once any pinpoint scabs have healed.
- Avoid heavy productsNo retinols, exfoliants, AHAs, BHAs, fragrances, or heavy makeup on the treated area.
- Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliateLet any scabs come off naturally. Picking is the main cause of pitting and scarring.
For the first week.
Continue to be gentle. Reintroduce active skincare slowly once the area looks calm. A simple routine of mild cleanser, light moisturizer, and sunscreen is enough for most clients during this window.

Common questions.
-
What is electrolysis?
Electrolysis treats hair follicles one at a time using a fine probe and a small electrical current. The current disables the follicle so the hair does not grow back. It is the only method recognized as permanent hair removal.
-
Is electrolysis permanent?
Yes. Electrolysis is recognized by Health Canada and the FDA as a permanent method of hair removal. Treating a follicle properly removes it from the cycle for good.
-
How is electrolysis different from laser?
Laser uses light absorbed by pigment, which is why it only works well on dark hair and is less reliable on lighter or red hair. Electrolysis works on every hair colour and every skin tone because it does not rely on pigment.
-
Does it work on blonde, grey, red, white, or fine hair?
Yes. Because electrolysis is not light-based, it treats every hair colour and texture equally well, including white, grey, blonde, red, and very fine hair that laser cannot.
-
Does it work on all skin tones?
Yes. Electrolysis is safe and effective on every skin tone because no pigment is targeted.
-
Does it hurt?
Sensation varies by area and by person. Most clients describe brief warmth or a small pinch. A few things help: you can take aspirin or another over-the-counter pain reliever beforehand, and topical numbing cream is available for purchase to apply at home before sensitive sessions. It also helps to arrive with a breathing technique you like, or AirPods and a podcast or playlist that keeps you calm.
-
Is it okay if I feel nervous or embarrassed?
Completely. Many first-time clients are nervous, especially before intimate or sensitive treatments. The consultation exists in part to make sure you feel safe before any work happens.
-
How long does it take?
Sessions run 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes. A full clearance plan typically runs 18 to 24 months of regular visits. Smaller areas can finish sooner; dense or hormonal areas can take longer.
-
How often should I come?
Electrolysis follows what is often called a staircase pattern. Early in your plan, sessions are frequent, usually every one to two weeks, to clear the hair that is currently in its active growth phase and reach a full clearance of the area. As treated follicles do not return and resting hairs cycle into active growth, visits gradually space out: every two to four weeks, then every four to six, then occasional cleanups a few times a year. Both the hair density and the visit frequency step down over time, which is where the name comes from. Your specific cadence is mapped at your first consultation and adjusted as your hair responds.
-
Can I shave between appointments?
Yes. Shaving is fine and will not affect your treatment. Before a session, just leave enough growth that the hair can be grasped with tweezers, usually one to four days depending on the area. Waxing, tweezing, and threading should still be avoided, since they remove the hair at the root.
-
What areas can be treated?
All areas. Face, brow, neck, jaw, chest, stomach, underarms, back, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet, bikini, and intimate. Willow treats every area without exception.
-
Do you offer intimate electrolysis?
Yes. Intimate electrolysis is a routine part of the practice, performed with the same care and discretion as any other area. The consultation is a place to ask any questions before treatment begins.
-
Do you offer gender-affirming electrolysis?
Yes. Facial feminization and full-body gender-affirming care are a meaningful and routine part of the practice, treated with the same care and discretion as any other request. Documentation for medical referrals is available where applicable. Willow does not currently accept insurance, but hopes to in time.
-
Is consultation required?
Yes. Every new client begins with a free consultation, including a small test patch so you feel the work and so Chloe can dial in the right settings for your skin and hair. A consultation is required even if you have had electrolysis before with another practitioner, and again if it has been more than a year since your last consultation with Chloe.
-
What is the cancellation policy?
A credit card is required to hold your appointment. Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel; cancellations inside 24 hours are charged 75% of the session rate, and no-call, no-shows are charged the full rate and may result in being unable to book again. Electrolysis is an ongoing relationship built on trust and respect, and these policies protect the time set aside for you.
